Located in the gods own country, Kerala, Kumarakom late resort is a beautiful get away. Situated on the back waters of Lake Vembanad it offers one of the finest stay experiences with its hospitality, great range of villas and presidential suits and finger licking good food especially the breakfast buffet. I stayed in one of its heritage villa with private pools and then later at a houseboat. What an indulgence it was; lovely smiling staff particularly at the restaurants, great food with lovely local music, sumptuous Kerala cuisine, well-manicured gardens, king coconut nariyal pani and spoil for good, house boat experiential stay.
Kumarakom was the last leg of my honeymoon adventure after Morocco and Spain. And just because one can’t miss India and it’s indulgent luxury and hospitality, I had to include Kerala with its tea gardens (read post on Spice Tree, Munnar here and here) and backwaters in the itinerary.
When staying at Kumarakom, there are a few things one should remember
- Staff can be pretty strict when following their rules and regulations and hence might take over an hour for check-in and will haunt you to check out as the clock strikes 12.
- There are various activities, fishing in the small meandering streams of water in the resort, cycling, spa, pottery, basket weaving etc.
- In order to avail houseboat experience, advance booking is recommended.
Price for two: Starts at 15,000 for Luxury Pavilion room – 22,500 for single bedroom houseboat.
It was a good experience. For anybody looking for the little luxuries of life in Kerala, beautiful tea tasting, excellent hospitality, and true value for money I will anyday recommend Spice Tree, Munnar over Kumarakom.
